Skinny is a budget telco known for doing things differently -including casting everyday people with celebrity names instead of actual celebrities, from Ben Affleck to Julia Roberts -from New Zealand.

But Skinny challenged us to find way to tap into local celebrity culture rather than international names. So we did it with one of the most well-known TV personalities from New Zealand’s longest-running drama, Shortland Street.

Chris Warner had been a doctor on the show for decades, and we found the perfect sub: Chris Warner -but from Kaukapakapa.

We shot on the same set as Shortland Street and had our TVC run first in the ad-break, blending the world of the show with an ad.
